A Brief Background of Israel

Before I begin telling you about my trip, I want to give you readers a brief background about Israel.  Israel is located in the Middle East and borders the countries: Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, and Jordan, as indicated by the maps below.  Additionally, the country borders the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea.  The current president of Israel is Shimon Peres.  The population, according to the 2010 estimate is 7,353,985 people, with Jerusalem, the capital city, having the most people, followed by Tel Aviv, and Haifa.  The languages spoken are Hebrew (official), Arabic, and English.  According to an estimate made in 2003, 77% of the population is Jewish, 16% is Muslim, 2% Christian, and 2% Druze.  The currency in Israel is a Shekel.  For additional information you can look on the website listed below.
